Chandrayaan- Ready to explore the possibilities !!

ISRO’s long time dream of sending Spacecraft to moon is going to come true, and it’s very very near than ever. Yes, Chandrayaan is all set to be launched on 22nd October 2008. PSLV C-11 will be carrying the spacecraft to the space and the launch is scheduled at 6:21 am on 2nd October.

Thousand scientists have been working on this project day and night for about an year. The motive behind the Chandrayaan project is to “Expanding the scientific knowlledge about the moon, Upgrading India’s technological capablilty and providing challenging oppurtunities for planetary research for younger generation”

The 83 metre long PSLV rocket weighs around 316 tons along with the space craft which alone weighs 1380 kilograms. It contains Eleven payloads(or experiments) namely TMC, HySI, LLRI, HEX, MIP, C1XS, SIR2, SARA,  RADOM, MiniSAR, M3.

The space craft will be controlled from the Deep space network at Byalalu situated some 40km from Banglore. The 52 hours count-down willstart on 21st of october. The chandrayaan project is totally a different one for ISRO, so far ISRO was lauching the satellite on the elliptical orbit at 40,000 km above the earth but the chandrayaan will be projected 4,00,000 kilometres from the earth surface towards the moon orbit. So this is a geat effort by ISRO. The Chandrayaan project has cost about 386 crores.

Chandrayaan will carry out research on the evolution of moon, the minerals in moon and the excess amount of Helium in the moon.

Let us wish All the Best and All Success for the ISRO Scientists, on their first Mission to the Moon.
